This course is designed for those that wish to expand their accounting knowledge in an effort to work in an accounting/business atmosphere.  The program contains a first level university accounting course which spans the entire academic year.  Students will receive a comprehensive course load including spreadsheets, various computerized accounting packages, word processing, economics, management, and general business courses.  Emphasis is placed on comprehension, as well as, practical applications.  Successful students are ready for immediate employment in an accounting or business related position.

Admission Requirements

  • Successful completion of High School Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Those applying as a mature student must be at least 28 years of age – Must provide a detailed resume outlining experience and qualifications.

In addition to the Common Core courses required to complete the program, the following are specific courses pertaining to the Accounting Management program.

Financial Accounting 3225 (Prerequisite Financial Accounting 2090)
The expansion of concepts learned in Financial Accounting 2090 and then the addition of topics such as inventory control, partnership and corporate accounting, as well as, the understanding and creation of cash flows is the basis for this course. Upon completion students will be competent to complete all accounting tasks on a daily, monthly and yearly basis for proprietorships, partnerships and corporations.

Business Law 2045
This program is designed to give students a general overview of the Canadian legal system, international torts, and negligence.  It also covers things to prevent the legal formation of a contract and ways to dispute them; agency and employment and collective bargaining.

Advanced Excel 2090
This course is designed to give students an understanding on how an electronic spreadsheet can make office productivity more effective by creating formulas, creating charts, using templates, creating pivot charts and tables, designing macro buttons and enhancing the worksheets usefulness to both management and accounting.

Occupational Health & Safety 3045
This program is designed to give students a general overview of the concepts behind safety in the workplace and the accounting for this program.  Topics include historical background of occupational health and safety, legislative framework, compensation, premium calculations, form completion and incident reporting.

Introduction to Payroll Administration 2045
Payroll is one of the most important responsibilities of a business.  Students completing this course will be capable of handling all forms, accounting entries and requirements of payroll legislation from the hiring of a new employee to the final record of employment.

Income Tax Preparation 2045
All Canadian citizens who earn income must file an income tax return annually.  This course prepares students to complete comprehensive tax returns for individuals and small businesses both manually and electronically.

Computerized Accounting- ACCPAC Plus 3090
ACCPAC Plus is a powerful accounting package widely used by larger companies.  Understanding set-up of company records, creating batches in the general, receivable and payable journals, working with account numbers, designing and printing reports, completing monthly processes and integration of information from the different ledgers are the focus of this course.

Computerized Accounting- Quickbooks 3020 (Prerequisite ACCPAC Simply Accounting 2090)
Upon completion of the ACCPAC Simply course, students are given an introduction to the similarities and differences in this basic bookkeeping package.
