Administration Programs
This program is particularly appealing to students who welcome the challenge of working in a busy office environment.
The major emphasis of this program is on developing the student’s flexibility to adapt to various software packages, as well as, establishing managerial skills which are required to oversee an office effectively. Throughout the program, the student will experience independence, learn effective problem-solving techniques, and the necessary communication skills to function within a team-based environment. Graduates of this program enjoy a competitive edge in today’s job market.
CORE COURSES
All students attending Atlantic Business College are required to complete a series of core courses in their respective programs that are designed to provide a common foundation of knowledge. This Common Core ensures that the student acquires a sound technological and practical foundation of skills that employers are seeking.
Keyboarding 1045
This program is designed to assist students in mastering the alphabet and numeric keyboard, speed and accuracy, and formatting of letters and memos.
Microsoft Office Suite 1045/90
Instruction is offered in computer functions, terminology and structure. Current software packages as WordPerfect for Windows and Microsoft Word are used. Students also become familiar and comfortable with spreadsheets, databases, presentations and communications using Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Manual Accounting 1090
Students will be given a strong foundation in accounting fundamentals and a clear understanding of accounting terminology. Students will be prepared to enter the job market in an entry-level accounting position; will be able to understand the usefulness and importance of accounting procedures as business owners, managers and office workers.
Computerized Accounting 1045
This course is designed to give students an understanding of how an electronic accounting package can make office accounting faster and more efficient. Emphasis is placed on working with an existing company by continuing the journal entries and adding new accounts, settings, and information as necessary.
Records Management 1025
This course is designed to instruct students in the use and design of alphabetic, numeric and geographical filing systems.
Career Skills 1045
You will complete a self-assessment questionnaire to help you discover what type of position and work environment is best for you. You will learn about specific skills and qualifications you bring to any position and company and how to select the best people as references. You will receive tips on filling out job applications and will be creating and perfecting a personal resume and cover letter. You will learn the best ways to evaluate a job offer and important advice for on the job success.
Office Communications 1090
This course develops basic language and communication skills. Business letters, reports and interpersonal skills are addressed as communication becomes increasingly important in the shrinking global marketplace.
