Peace Interviewing Techniques
Newly created and adopted in Great Britain with a Canadian rollout in March 2009. This non-invasive interviewing technique replaces the traditional police interrogation methods. ABC will be the first college in Policing Foundations to receive this training program.

Themes and models of community policing and police structure are covered in this course as well as conflict resolution and the importance of volunteerism in the community policing environment.

Communication Skills for Law Enforcement
Communications is essential in law enforcement. Students will learn effective listening skills, how to summarize and paraphrase while keeping a comprehensive memo book and preparing reports. Spelling and gramamr will also be emphasized.

Introduction to Psychology
This course investigates the biological basis of behaviour as well as the importance of sensation, perception, learning, motivation, and emotion in the realm of behaviour. Psychological disorders, social behaviour, and coping with stress in a healthy manner are also examined.

Police Powers and Procedures
Included in this course are topics on the sources of police powers, police services acts, accountability, and limits of police powers. Use of force, arrest powers, search and seizure, and the use of police discretion are covered in detail.

Accident Investigations
Detailed plan drawings, scene and speed management (radar principles) are topics that are covered in this course. Study of the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act and the Liquor Control Act are also included in this course.

Canadian Constitution, Federal and Parliamentary government, rule of law, and the courts (NB and Canadian) are some of the topics covered in this course.

Forensics
Included in this course, but not limited to, are fingerprints, evidence packaging-handling-storage, DNA procedures, and scene photography.

Defensive Tactics
Students are introduced to necessary self-defense skills using Taekwondo, joint manipulation, pressure point systems, and restraining devices.

Security Administration
An introduction to the origins of the security industry, security professionals today, powers, and skills. Also includes arrest legislation and patrol procedures. Radio procedures including the use of the phonetic alphabet, court appearances, identity control, automated security systems, retail security, internal theft, and emergency response.

Fitness and Healthy Lifestyle
Starting a healthy lifestyle by active living, goal setting and planning, and maintaining a fitness program is the focus of this course. Course will include a gym membership to include cardiovascular fitness as well as strength and endurance training.

Law Enforcement Ethics
The principles of ethical reasoning and critical thinking are essential to law enforcement. this course deals with the Professional Code of Ethics and Core Values in Policing and Law Enforcement.

Basic investigation strategies, decision making models, crime scene protection are topics covered in this course. Witness competency, compellability, and rules of evidence are also examined.

In order to prepare and present professional reports, students will be taught keyboarding and Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook skills.
